ChartTalk: A colder-than-average winter forecast and high energy prices will quite significantly raise heating costs for many U.S. consumers this winter, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration.
Social Security recipients will get a 8.7% COLA this January, but those still in the work force will not. Inflation has now been outpacing nominal wage growth for 18 months straight, meaning that Americans can afford less than they could a year ago, even with increased wages.
ChartTalk: Despite the Fed’s historically aggressive rate hikes and another 5% drop in gasoline prices, inflation remained stubbornly high in September, as prices rose 0.4% compared to August and 8.2% compared to September 2021.
